Goldfrapp are back with the release of their fourth album, 'Seventh Tree', through Mute on 25th February 2008. 'Seventh Tree' is written and produced by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory and was recorded at their own studio deep in the English countryside.
A sensual counterpoint to the glitterball glamour of 'Supernature', 'Seventh Tree' is gilded in the butterfly colours of an English surrealism shared from Lear to Lennon. It shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool over which Alison's glistening voice soars.

False [aka Matthew Dear] - 2007

Artist : False aka Matthew Dear
Title : 2007
Genre : Electronic
Style : Minimal/Tech-House
Format : 1xCD
Label : M_nus
Catalog# : M55CD
Release Date : 20/07/2007
Tracks : 14
Playtime : 59.47

Essentially a special one off live set, the new continuous play False LP ‘2007’ defines Dear’s relationship with Minus. Together with the accompanying vinyl release of Fed On Youth / Face The Rain he has concocted a work of such stunning intricacy, verve and substance that it will surely be in amongst the favourites when this year’s highlights are assessed.
The opening sequence unfurls gradually but even as the ominous Indy 3000 drifts into the metronomic comfort of Meat Me In The Markt you can already feel the gravitational pull sucking you in. The electro shock therapy of Warm Co. and the pensive minimalism of Timing and Alright Liar continue turning the screw and before you know it you’re lost in a void of slow chugging sub-beats, filtered vox fx and dense, disorienting reverbs. Distant melodies somehow make it through, like the soft, meditative tones on Plus Plus and the melancholy motif of Face the Rain, which leaves you temporarily frozen and suspended before the energetic Dollar Down ushers in the pivotal, subsonic avalanche of Disease/George Washington.
The album starts to gather momentum on the home stretch. The tension and suspense of Act Like Children/Excalibur roll into In The Heather which in turn breaks under the weight of Fed On Youth as Dear finally unleashes a sequence of laser guided synth stabs that recall the hi-octane drive-by of the intro. Stomachs/Ankle Biter extends the climactic conclusion amid a wash of analogue white noise before Forgetting finally releases the pressure valve, slowly drifting back to the initial point of origin.
What is so memorable about this collection of tracks is the way it strikes the perfect balance between abstract experimentation and full on techno nirvana without ever breaking stride or losing focus. Dear is an artist you can trust to deliver. There’s nothing brash or over blown here, all the real action is nestled between the beats - enticing yet unreachable - while the grooves he concocts are all so earthy and raw that the kick drum functions as an alternative rather than a necessity.

Minus - Expansion Contraction

Title : Expansion Contraction
Genre : Electronic
Style : Minimal
Country : Canada
Format : 1xCD
Label : Minus
Catalog# : M58
Release Date : 09/11/2007
Tracks : 07
Playtime : 53.26

Of the continuing themes found throughout the music released on MINUS, one constant exploration is the relationship between Sound and Silence. Within the stripped down but dimensional outcome there exists a polarity that is neither controlled nor accidental, where life imitates art in between the notes. The act of finding inspiration from a sonic molecule or the inaudible space around that element is the nature of EXPANSION | contraction.
Dubfire (Ali, ex-Deep Dish) enters the EXPANSION with the tremendous “Emissions”. This is his first track to be released on Minus and is the culmination of his gravitation towards the Minus sound cemented by a friendship over the years with label head Richie Hawtin. Gaiser again hits the mark with “Mute”, which captures the excitement of his storming live shows throughout 2007 and is taken from the sessions that spawned his forthcoming double pack release “Eye Contact” (M54). Currently 'on fire' Marc Houle continues his own musical expansion with “Porch”, following up and going beyond his “Extreme” (Items and Things 02) and the monstrous “Techno Vocals/On It” (M50) double-header [...]

Cadenza Contemporary 01 and Classics compiled & mixed by Luciano

Title : Cadenza Contemporary 01 and Classics
Genre : Electronic
Style : Minimal/Techno
Format : 2xCD
Label : Cadenza Records
Catalog# : CADCD02
Release Date : 02/11/2007
Tracks : 16
Playtime : 67.01+66.24

For its first-ever CD edition, Cadenza prepares something truly special. Spread across two CDs, Cadenza Contemporary 0.1 & Classics is a distillation of the label's essence-not just an overview of its past, but also a teasing suggestion of what lies ahead.
The first CD, mixed by Luciano, digs its fingers into the label's six most recent records-plus Luciano's own "Tonerres," from the lone Cadenza Split Composition release so far-and teases out a single thread, which it rolls lovingly between its fingertips. The mix could have taken any number of different directions; Cadenza's last seven or eight releases, not to mention its entire 22-record run, offer a multitude of offbeats and accents that might serve as the stepping stones across the label's history. Luciano's mix takes the snakiest path possible, beginning with the blippy, aquamarine-colored house of Argenis Brito and Digitaline before taking a detour through Petre Inspirescu's sideshow psychedelia. When things get a little noir he opens the slats on Andomat 3000 & Jan's clattery Venetian blinds, making way for Rhadoo's percussive, mid-day reverie, all swirling dust motes and forgotten clocks ticking in the distance. Alejandro Vivanco brings a momentary wake-up call with his rubbery bass wallop, and then irreality descends again courtesy Luciano and Pikaya, delivering two of the deepest, most gravity-free tracks in Cadenza's catalogue.
CD two highlights Cadenza's early years with a selection of classics culled from the label's first six releases, all of them appearing for the first time on unmixed CD. Luciano & Quenum lead off with the rightfully anthemic "Orange Mistake," and Luciano & Pier Bucci follow up with the liquid Latin ripple of "Amael". Quenum & Lee Van Dowski's "Extension" is as kinetic as anything the label's ever done, a hall of mirrors and circuit boards, while Luciano & Serafin's "Funk Excursion" goes straight for the gut-no need to bring your own funk, it's here in plentiful supply. Nsi.'s "Max Binski" remains at the frontier of Cadenza's outer limits: channeling free-jazz piano into an anxious, bass-heavy groove, it's one of electronic music's strongest tracks of the last half-decade, and its arrival on CD is cause enough to welcome this release. Finally, Luciano closes the disc out with "Bomberos," one of Cadenza's earliest hits and a shining example of his way with a supple, slippery groove.
Beautifully packaged in Cadenza's characteristically sumptuous designs, Cadenza Contemporary 0.1 is a milestone for one of electronic music's most important labels, and a tangible time-capsule to collect and keep.

Release Date : 09/2007

For its 20th release, Cadenza turns to Romania's Petre Inspirescu, aka Pedro. He may be a new addition to the label, and for that matter a new name to many listeners. (Until now he's recorded two compilation tracks and one EP, for the labels Vinylclub and [a:rpia:r].)
In his home town of Bucharest, Romania, however, Petre has long been a pivotal figure alongside his frequent accomplices Raresh and Rhadoo, and in the last two years, his appearances in Ibiza and throughout Europe have brought his name to many listeners' lips, heightening interest in the fertile Romanian scene-an unexpected outpost of advanced electronic music whose rise recalls Chile's emergence as a central player in contemporary techno, despite its location on the so- called margins. Estroe vs. ZoëXenia - Sweet Dreams

Artist : Estroe vs. ZoëXenia
Title : Sweet Dreams EP
Genre : Electronic
Style : Detroit/Chicago
Format : 12"
Label : Connaisseur Supérieur
Catalog# : CNS018-6
Release Date : 10/10/2007
Tracks : 04
Playtime : 25.36

Estroe and ZoëXenia already teamed up for Connaisseur’s compilation Grand Cru 2007 with their wonderful track “Don’t Forget”. This time the ladies share a split ep with one original track and one remix of both.
Estroe’s “Driven” was already a big success on Connaisseur Supérieur at the beginning of this year and found its way on some important compilations and CD-mixes like Ellen Allien’s Fabric mix. Beside her production activities, Estroe is a remarkable and stylistically confident DJ. Famous in the Netherlands, but also slowly recognized outside her home country.
ZoëXenia is a singer and songwriter since her teenage years. Her impressing presence combined with her soulful voice made her succeed at the finals of Diesel U-Music Benelux as well as at Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2004. But not only singing is her passion. When she was infected by house music she began to develop her own electronic style as a producer, which ended in her first release on ArtMiniMal in spring 2007. More releases on Remote Area will follow soon.
ZoëXenia’s Cherish is a homage to big vocal tunes like “Big Fun” or “Good Life”. But don’t be mistaken, it ain’t a House tune, its driving groove has more the rollin’ Techno power of the motorcity - rumbling and driving. With ZoëXenia’s vocals on top an outstanding track, whose style not many people would have expected on Connaisseur.
Estroe’s Can’t Sleep is an oldschoolish Techno track with a driving bassline and a nervous trippin sequence. A swinging rhodes piano part interrupts the sequence in the middle of the track and creates a classic balance between melody and groove.
Cherish (Estroe Rmx) – Estroe’s rework takes Cherish from Detroit to Chicago. She reduced the vocals and adds a straight trap set work and a bouncy beat. Proper house music!
Can’t Sleep (ZoëXenia Rmx) – has the presence of an old “classic record” tune, very Chicago – nervous meandering percussions, spooky vocals and a flickering aura makes this cut a genuine after hour pearl.

A1. ZoëXenia - Cherish
A2. Estroe - Can’t Sleep

Daso - Absinthe

Artist : Daso
Title : Absinthe
Genre : Electronic
Style : Woozy Tech
Counr : Germany

Label : Connaisseur Recordings
Catalog# : CNS013-6
Release Date : 04/06/2007
Tracks : 03
Playtime : 21.39

Daso Franke, a fellow well known not only for his fantastic releases on MBF and Connaisseur, but also for his furious live-sets, sets out to bring the noise again. After having been inspired by the nerdy world of old-schoolish adventure games for his last release, he uses the dissolute world of absinthe as an afflatus this time. He takes us to a land where alluring little green fairies buzz around and people cut their ears off under absinthe’s massively woozy influence.
Thujon: The impact of well-made Absinthe depends on its concentration of thujon. It can best be described as a kind of heightened clarity of mind and vision. And this is what this track is all about - 100% Thujon!
Louche is the name of the cloudy effect you achieve by adding water to spirits, which contain anise, like absinthe does. This track starts with a low-key groove, which forces up to a mental dance affaire, including a genuine rocking Daso-esque break.
La Fée Verte: Imagine a lazy summer afternoon. You’re sitting outside a small café at the Cote d’Azur. After drinking your fourth Absinthe you might actually see a little green fairy, sitting on your shoulder, singing this sweet melody in your ear.
