After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release 'Nightcall' as an apéritif. 'Nightcall' is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. Lovefoxxx from CSS!
The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by SebastiAn. The remix of this song, by a mysterious Dustin Nguyen, is an outstanding pop song that everyone can enjoy.
On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic 'Pacific Coast Highway', in which we follow a ghostcar on the highway. The remix job is by French avant-garde producer Jackson. His epic 9 minute long version is unmissable.

Dave Seaman and Renaissance are an iconic duo. Their collaborations have become like fish & chips, Lennon & McCartney and Posh & Becks – a quintessentially British export. The latest chapter in the Masters Series finds him in a rich vein of form as he draws upon the scenes best talent. Disc One treads along a more eclectic path taking in Four Tet, Ben Watt, UNKLE, Moby and Spooky before culminating in Dave’s own twist on Ewan Pearson’s lauded re-work of Jon Hopkins blissful anthem ‘Light Through The Veins’. Disc Two takes more of a peak-time high road, picking-up hitchhikers in the form of Guy J, Agoria, Radio Slave and Nic Fanciulli before bundling them all out to make way for the heavy hitting finale of Gui Boratto’s Adam Freeland remix.
As ever, the unique bag of editing, additional production and FX has been expertly woven throughout the mix, as Seaman further outlines, “There’s so much additional production and ‘nipping and tucking’ editing going on it’s difficult to highlight it all! We’ve credited certain parts where the results are obvious (the UNKLE acapella over a heavily chopped-up Andre Winter track and the additional drums, bass and female vocal on Jon Hopkins for example), but the whole album almost became like one long track to be honest, such was the care and attention that went into it. I hope it shines through…”

Oscar Mulero is today counted among the world's most respected and talented techno DJ's. The Spanish artist entered the Tresor spectrum already at the turn of the century as a guest in Tresor Club and entered into the label's universe via his excellent remix of Pacou's track Diagonal on his "Last Man Standing" EP in 2004 (Tresor.209). As a DJ Dave has ranked amongst the top-flight for many years, playing to packed-out shows all over the globe, he is undoubtedly one of the biggest names out there. The association between Dave and Renaissance is a long one, having delivered numerous albums over the years, including his much-vaunted contributions to the illustrious Masters Series. But 2009 sees him release his first single on the label, and it certainly has been well worth the wait.
Released as a double A-side, we start with ‘Attack Of The Abalones’, a peak time stomper; built around an insistent kick and ascending, technoid stabs. The urgency rises as effects swirl together until all is brushed aside and the funk-laden hook rips through: the sound of a dancefloor in full swing. The break down winds up the percussion again as analogue interference builds into that almighty riff again and the party really starts.
The second track is ‘Wrong Side Business’, an all-together darker affair, with a moody acid-line that drives it well into late night territory. The menacing pads rise ominously, interplaying with filtered snares and a distorted choral vocal sample, to heighten the atmospherics further. When it drops, the acid and percussion intensify, twisting heads and moving feet deep into the night.
Dave Seaman’s place in dance music is well cemented, but this is surely his most inspired studio work to date.

Having made his name as a true heavyweight of the techno scene with a string of seminal productions to his name, Christian Smith is undoubtedly one of the best-respected names in the genre. Often collaborating with his long-time studio partner, John Selway, Christian’s work has set the benchmark for quality techno; as his releases with Josh Wink’s ‘Ovum’ imprint, John Digweed’s Bedrock, Steve Lawler’s ever-innovative Viva Music and of course, Renaissance, attest. Over the last few years Christian has developed his relationship with Renaissance, with two EPs under his belt. Now he launches the new series ‘Platform’, which has been designed to allow the freshest talent from the scene to shine, and there is surely none more deserving to kick things off.
“I wanted to do something special… that stands the test of time, but that has not been done for Renaissance before.” – Christian Smith
To achieve this he has given each mix of this two-disc package a different flavour. Devoting the first CD to Detroit techno, Christian “picked tracks that are produced by European artists that are heavily inspired by the early Detroit sound.” He mixes up the hypnotic groove of Radio Slave’s remix of the Humate classic ‘Love Stimulation’ with standout tracks from Stimming, Nic Fanciulli & Steve Mac. Christian also adds a generous helping of his own unreleased original production to create a shimmering soundscape, that is as beautifully crafted, as it is compelling.
The second disc represents Christian in a more peaktime, club environment - big records that convey the energy that he always brings to the dancefloor. Incorporating tracks from such production luminaries as Timo Maas, Cirez D and Guy J (as well as a further sprinkling of previously unheard material from his own studio) this CD is best described by Christian himself:
“At the end of that day it’s all about a good party and this is exactly what this second cd is.”

Neil Quigley has undoubtedly made his mark over the last few years, from supporting John Digweed at his legendary Bedrock residency at Heaven to playing under the Renaissance banner all over the world he has developed his name on a global level whilst still maintaining a close understanding of Renaissance as a label. So, little surprise that when we embarked upon the daunting project of selecting and mixing the best of the label’s recent releases we turned to Mr Quigley to sprinkle a bit of his unique magic over proceedings. As he puts it, “My aim was to showcase the varied styles of their output over recent years, making sure I included many of my favourites, and put them together in a way that still flowed so people can enjoy it as a mix in its own right.”
Not content just to utilise the Renaissance catalogue, Quigley has provided a new original production that shows off his studio skills to full effect. Describing ‘That Whole Thing’ Neil says the track, “… reflects the direction my sound has taken of late; simpler, more stripped down and tougher than before”, all this without losing any of his renowned soulful edge.
He also took the opportunity to remix Phonique’s ‘For The Time Being’ which he considers to be: “one of the seminal house tracks over the past ten years,” and goes on to elaborate, “being able to work with Erlend Øye's vocals was a thrill for a Royksopp fan like myself.”
Incorporating his own work with a pool of resources that includes tracks from some of the biggest names around, Quigley seamlessly weaves together contributions from the likes of John Digweed, James Zabiela, Jerome Sydenham, Nic Fanciulli, Christian Smith & John Selway alongside material from rising stars of the scene such as Tigerskin, Henry Saiz and Abyss, showing the label’s diversity and constant passion for breaking new talent.
Consequently Mr Quigley is able to create something fresh with this mix, presenting the sound of Renaissance, without losing the underlying vibe that has made his name as a DJ of some repute.

It's been nine years since Lucien Nicolet's first record, and in that time he has earned his place among electronic dance music's most celebrated names. He's racked up singles for the likes of Mental Groove, Perlon, Desolat and of course Cadenza. He's remixed everyone from M83 to Salif Keita, and his mix CDs for Fabric and Soma's Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. series have showcased minimal house and techno at their most sensual, supple and jubilant. And Luciano's DJ sets have become the stuff of legend the world over. Throughout his career, the Swiss-Chilean musician has experimented liberally with longer formats, including a live album for Thomas Brinkmann's max.Ernst label and 2004's groundbreaking No Model No Tool, a recombinant set of groove components. But in all this time he has released only one proper studio album, 2004's Blind Behaviour, which veered away from the dancefloor in search of more esoteric pleasures. At long last, with Tribute to the Sun, Luciano delivers one of the definitive highlights of his career. Not merely a "dance" or "electronic" record, Tribute incorporates musical styles from around the globe with Luciano's inimitable rhythmic sensibility. It draws upon Luciano's extensive experience as a mover of bodies and a reader of the crowd's mind. Many of its grooves form an integral part of Luciano's DJ sets, having been road-tested and continually refined. But it's very much an album to be listened to front to back. (Most of the album's cuts will also be made available as extended edits, for vinyl and download alike.) Tribute to the Sun is above all a highly personal portrait of the artist. Informed by the ups and downs of the artist's life, and the balancing act between life on the road and the refuge of family life in rural Switzerland, its moods run from the heavenly grace of "Celestial" to the outright madness of "Metodisma." This is the fullest portrait yet of Luciano as not just an artist but a human being.
Four years in the making, the album finds Luciano collaborating with a cast of musicians as talented as they are diverse. Martina Topley-Bird, of course, is known for her haunting contributions to Tricky's early classics, as well as for her solo career and collaborations with the likes of Danger Mouse and Mike Patton. Senegal's Ali Boulo Santo, heir to a long line of griots and nephew of the legendary "King of the Kora" Soundioulou Cissoko, was said to be "born with a Kora in his hands"; he pioneered an electronic fusion of Mandingue Afrobeat in his recordings for Frédéric Galliano's Frikyiwa label, and here his contributions continue to expand the possibilities for "world" music in new contexts. Switzerland's Bruno Bieri is the inventor of the Hang, a kind of steel drum with a sound like a mountain stream; "Hang for Bruno" features both his limpid melodies and the contributions of the Israeli percussionist Omri Hason, a student of the Iranian master Djamchid Chemirani. Omri Is also part of Luciano’s live project Aether.

This release sets out to showcase the wealth and talent of the labels esteemed catalogue all of which have been diligently and painstakingly updated by the likes of Robert Babicz, Pig & Dan, Quivver, Charlie May, Gusgus, Glenn Morrison, Funkagenda, Guy J, Eelke Kleijn, Simon & Shaker to name but a few.
The tracklisting over both CD's is second to none and is bolstered even further by the addition of 2 totally exclusive tracks from Dave Seaman himself, one of which is a collaboration with legendary producer Josh Gabriel and the other being an unreleased remix of his own much lauded single Gobbledygook.

There were only a handful of candidates to handle Renaissance’s 50th album milestone, but perhaps none more suited than Hernan Cattaneo. His previous entries into the series have established themselves as true classics, giving rise to calls, emails, even PM’s to the Renaissance office imploring us to re-secure the talents of the legendary South American.
In light of such demand, who were we to argue?
Add in the heightened anticipation of the fact it’s Hernan’s first compilation in two years and the stage is well and truly set, perfectly echoed in a recent post by one avid member of a dance message board, ‘Damn, this is a ‘must have’ compilation!’
And Hernan has clearly risen to the challenge. Working alongside various friends and producers from around the world he blurs the lines between artist album and compilation by including no less than 12 of his own originals, edits and remixes within the 29 strong, 2CD track list. “You’ve got to distinguish a compilation in this digital age,” he says, “It’s important fans and listeners feel they’re getting a unique mix, elevated beyond a standard club set. I hope this comes across with the album, it’s the product of many sleepless nights, hours in the studio and a lot of care and passion.”
Looking to the wider selection it’s clear Cattaneo hasn’t rested on his laurels as he features some of the brightest luminaries from the scene, taking in James Zabiela, Danny Howells, Guy Gerber, Timo Maas, Skylark, Guy J, Henry Saiz, plus many more, all segued by his flawless mixing style; yet another timeless addition to Hernan’s body of work and the Masters Series.
